Report of Reach 2018

School of Medical and Allied Sciences, GD Goenka University organized 1st National Conference on Recent Advances and Challenges in Healthcare (REACH-2018) on March 18, 2018. The conference was jointly organized in association with Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI) and Society of Indian Physiotherapists (SIP). Theme of the conference was “Role of Technology in Transforming Healthcare”. The conference was attended by more than 400 delegates representing academia, industry and student fraternity. Eminent speakers from academia and industry were invited to share their knowledge on varied topics related to the theme of the conference.

Prof. (Dr.) Shailendra Saraf, Vice President, Pharmacy Council of India was the Chief Guest. The eminent child prodigy Master Kautilya Pandit popularly known as “Google boy” was the special guest of honor. Prof. Shrihari, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of the GD Goenka University presided over the inaugural session of the conference and extended a warm welcome to all the esteemed guests and participants. Later, Dean, School of Medical & Allied Sciences- Prof. (Dr.) Rohit Dutt gave a welcome speech. The conference steered into an array of technical sessions, oral presentations and poster presentations.

Many notable speakers from different medical fields shared their views and knowledge on recent advances in healthcare technologies. In the inaugural session, Dr. Romi Singh, Associate Vice PresidentSun Pharmaceuticals private limited disseminated information about top 20 advancements in healthcare field ranging from genome sequencing to robotic surgeries. Dr. Raju Parashar, Director/Principal Amar Jyoti Institute of Physiotherapy, New Delhi urged the audience to follow ethical practices for the betterment of the profession. Dr. Ali Irani, Ex-Physiotherapist Indian Cricket Team conducted a hands on training session on the management of sports injuries. He discussed the importance of pre and post workouts for a sportsperson. Ms. Nadia Merchant, Nutritional Manager Kellogg’s India Pvt. Ltd. Gave an understanding on the role of cereals in management of various human ailments. She highlighted the importance of having a healthy breakfast for an energetic day.

Dr. Pooja Sharma, Sr. Gynecologist, Medanta –The Medicity took an excellent session on the “Impact of technology in improving healthcare practices. She emphasized that usage of technology could improve patient compliance with reduced treatment cost. Dr. Deependra Singh was the co-chairman of the session.

The second session was delivered by Dr. Mary Skelly, CEO, Microbide, Italy. She elaborated on antimicrobial resistance and new avenues to combat the same, explaining the design and development of biocide for the delivery of antimicrobial agents.

The third session-cum-workshop was taken by Dr. Pritesh Bhat, Senior Application Scientist, Schrodinger, Bangalore. He emphasized the role of various In-silico techniques for shortening the time of drug discovery process. He explained the techniques like docking and pharmacophore mapping through the application of Schrodinger software. Dr. AK Madan and Dr. Harish Dureja were the chairman and co-chairman of the session.

A session on “Recent advances in Clinical Trials” was taken by Dr. Arun Sundriyal, PPD Pvt. Ltd., Gurugram. He disseminated the importance of volunteering in clinical trials for the benefit of the mankind through a video lecture. Dr. Dhirender Kaushik and Dr. Sudhir Bhardwaj were the session chairs.

Dr. Anant Phogat, Nutritionist, deliberated on the design of specific diets for various health disorders like diabetes, hypertension, obesity etc.

More than 300 abstracts were received for oral as well as poster presentations. Students having best presentations in various categories were awarded Best Paper Award in the valedictory session which was presided by Dr. Gajendra Singh, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Pt. BD Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak.

The seminar concluded with the felicitation of all the speakers, chairman and co-chairman during various sessions. Dr. Payal Mahajan, Assistant Professor, School of Medical and Allied Sciences offered vote of thanks and expressed her gratitude on behalf of everybody, towards Management of GD Goenka University for providing various facilities, APTI and SIP leadership for their kind association for REACH2018, Speakers for sparing their valuable time and insights on the subject, faculty members and students from various institutes for attending the conference.
